ROOKIE

GAME TRAINER

Starting to read books without any established reading habits can feel like trying to climb a mountain without any gear. As the saying goes, "One should learn to watch grass grow." In other words, every habit and achievement takes plenty of time and patience to become part of our lifestyle.

Whenever I suggest a book to my friends, they often start with great enthusiasm. However, after just 2 or 3 pages, their eyes glaze over, and they start nodding off, sometimes using the book as a pillow. It’s a common struggle, but there’s a way to ease into the world of reading.

Begin with smaller pieces of reading. Think of it as dipping your toes into the water before diving in.

Before you dive into any of the challenges that follow, try completing one of these pre-requisites:

  1. Read an article of your choice from a newspaper or magazine. Pick something that genuinely interests you, whether it’s the latest tech gadget, a cooking recipe, or even the horoscope section.

  2. Search for information about your favorite hobby on the internet and read about it. Even if you already know a lot about knitting, gardening, or playing the ukulele, there’s always something new to learn or a fresh perspective to discover.

Commit to either of these activities for 10 days. Think of it as a warm-up before the big game. By the end, you might find yourself naturally reaching for a book instead of your phone when you have a few spare minutes.

Remember, the goal is to build a habit gradually. Celebrate small victories, like finishing an article or learning a new fact about your hobby. Over time, these small steps will lead to bigger achievements, and reading will become a rewarding part of your daily routine.
